VDC’s analysts were among more than 3,500 members of the international media and press that attended the GSMA’s
annual Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain last week. Device OEMs were eager to release their first
5G-capable handsets (Huawei, LG, Samsung, Sony, and Xiaomi each had notable device reveals in Barcelona) and
prominent telecom equipment manufacturers such as Ericsson, Huawei, and Nokia timed 5G contract announcements
for MWC. While MWC remains the venue of choice to unveil the latest and greatest devices, the emphasis on 5G, the
IoT and datacenter innovations were on display at MWC.
