After two years of solid growth in 2017 and 2018, driven in particular by investments in bioptic POS scanners for self-checkout systems, 2019 shipments of POS scanners fell by 10.4% from $XXXM to $XXXM. VDC projects the current year, 2020, to fall by X%, due mostly to the economic impact of coronavirus, even though some retail segments such as grocery, pharmacies and QSR are showing signs of resilience and growing demand for POS solutions to support especially contact-less checkout solutions.
