Tom Wimmer - Practice Director

Tom has more than 15 years experience directing market research studies and helping his clients to develop market-driven business plans that deliver measurable improvements in sales and create shareholder value.  His project-related experience is diverse, including countless market and technology assessments, product and channel development initiatives, competitive analyses, branding studies and due diligence support for M&A activity.  Tom has strong operational experience that guides his thinking when he’s scoping engagements and analyzing data on behalf of his clients.  Tom has strong expertise related to a number of foundational and advanced AIDC technologies including: barcode printing and scanning, RFID, mobile printing, kiosks, smartcards, and the supporting infrastructures required to derive value from these technologies. Prior to working for VDC, Tom directed the market research function for Zebra technologies, a global supplier of barcode printers, card printers and RFID solutions.  During his eleven year tenure, the company grew revenues from $192M to $868M by expanding its product portfolio, channels of distribution and geographic footprint.  Tom’s research provided decision support for many of these investments. Tom is a graduate of The University of Illinois at Chicago (BA, Psychology), Benedictine University (MS, Management & Organizational Behavior) and recently completed the Kellogg Management Institute at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

 


Andrew Nathanson - Director

Drew has more than 15 years experience in industrial enterprise program management, general management, strategy consulting, and business development. At VDC, Drew is responsible for the firm’s Research Operations, working closely with VDC clients, analysts, consultants, and senior management to design, execute, manage, and deliver proprietary research and syndicated programs. Previously, Drew managed the AutoID and Transaction Automation Practice, delivering syndicated and proprietary research covering major AIDC, RFID, NFC, and Retail Automation markets.  Prior to joining VDC, Drew launched and served as Principal of Blue Flame, a management consulting firm focusing on the advanced materials and sciences industry and their related tech markets. Drew began his career with Integrated Separation Systems as a production manager for high volume automated PAGE Gel manufacturing and analysis. At Boston Optical Fiber, Drew managed all product design, development, production, PR and marketing activities for Plastic Optical Fiber and associated product lines.  Drew is a graduate of Clark University (BS, biology and chemistry) and Northeastern University (MBA, concentration in high-tech).

 


Peter Doran - Account Executive

Peter has more than 20 years of experience in sales with a strong background in building personal and professional relationships with clients, and helping them solve challenging business problems. Prior to working for VDC Research, Peter was a Senior Account Executive for Syrinx Consulting, where he worked with his clients to identify and secure the resources needed to deliver complex technology projects. He has extensive sales leadership experience in Financial Institution Payment Systems (Deluxe Check Printers) as well as HR Recruitment Solutions (Monster.com). Peter has a B.A. degree from Hamilton College.
