New Digital Services Offer Vendors and Opportunity to Move up their Customers’ Value Chain, According to VDC Research
Ranks of Organizations Adopting as-a-Service Offerings Expected to Expand Significantly

NATICK, MA | March 16, 2017 - Digitization trends are forcing businesses to invest in new technologies, according to VDC Research (click here for more info). Many organizations are migrating their infrastructure to a cloud-driven IT environment. This requires strong collaboration between business and IT, and can be challenging depending on the sophistication and maturity of the organizations’ enterprise architecture and its ability to evolve its IT management strategy. However, VDC’s study indicates it is becoming clear that cloud capacity will figure heavily into how companies rapidly scale their storage and compute capacity.

New Digital Services Offer Vendors and Opportunity to Move up their Customers’ Value Chain
VDC’s findings indicate that the cloud is just one of several inter-related trends that have forever changed the IT landscape. “Mobile applications and social networks are contributing to the explosive growth of data. Simultaneously, big data trends are exacerbating the move into the cloud as companies are seeking more agile ways to scale up quickly and to experiment with new analytical approaches,” said Eric Klein, Director of Enterprise Mobility and Connected Devices at VDC.

Mobile applications have become core elements to digital transformation service offerings, according to the report. They present a massive opportunity for end-to-end mobile applications lifecycle management services. While mobile application usage has increased, end users are not satisfied with the pace of their organizations’ mobile initiatives and application adoption. “As the sophistication of mobile applications evolves, customers will need and demand more functionality and better tools,” said Klein. The report concludes that while organizations are embracing solutions that enable them to offer mobile access to content behind their firewalls, processing superior security controls will also be an important differentiator.

As digital initiatives expand and begin influencing the entire supply chain, the ranks of organizations adopting as-a-service offerings are expected to grow significantly. “Outsourcing complex technology deployments and support elements will deliver simplicity and speed while providing an opportunity for notable cost reduction. IT services vendors that can deliver digital transformation as a service to address these complex integrations will emerge as winners and see their digital revenues grow quickly,” said Klein.
