In late February 2017, VDC made its annual trek to Barcelona and Mobile World Congress (MWC). With over 108,000 attendees and 2,300 exhibitors, 2017’s MWC topped last year’s event in both size and scope. The show has morphed from its carrier and service provider/network infrastructure centric past and placed greater emphasis on mobile solutions and application opportunities, with 5G and IoT emerging as key themes this year. This VDC View, MWC 2017 Recap: What Was and Wasn’t, highlights emerging trends from the show that will shape the broader enterprise mobility and IoT industries in the upcoming year, including:
Smartphone innovation is dead, but the camera lives on
Advances in indoor location and positioning technology drive adoption in 2017
Innovative use cases for hearables as the biometric, bio-sensing, and communication gateway
Innovation is needed in enterprise mobility security
IoT solutions are catching up to the hype
