VDC Research's annual examination of end-user buying behavior has noted an emerging trend over the past few years. The emergence of operations technology-the procurement and use of technology by those in operational roles-has complicated the role of a company's IT department. While the objectives of the IT department remain the same, the manner in which they complete these objectives and the forces with which they must now contend have changed.
